1927 Sunbeam Model 9 Flat Tanker
1927 Sunbeam Model 9 Flat Tanker
This superb 1927 Sunbeam Model 9 flat tanker was restored many years ago by a well-respected Sunbeam enthusiast with great knowledge of the marque. It has stayed in the family since.
The Model 9 has correct, ”matching numbers”. The frame number is stamped on the steering head and on the frame just by the bracket for the engine and gearbox as it should be.
This specific Sunbeam is pictured in freshly restored condition on page 104 of the book 'The Sunbeam Motorcycle' written by Robert Cordon Champ. Today the Sunbeam is completely identical and unchanged from this picture, only with very light patina from limited use and heated storage.
The Sunbeam was first registered in the UK on the 24th of March 1928 and has had four owners in total.
In addition, the following parts can be mentioned:
ML “Square” magneto
Amac TT carburetor
Dunlop rims 21inch front and rear
Terry saddle with original cover (with one tiny pinhole on the left side)
Lucas rubber horn
Apart from the light patina, the motorcycle is like a newly restored motorcycle. It has done no more than a few thousand kilometers. Everything works and feels "tight" as a good, newly restored motorcycle would.
There are not many OHV Sunbeam flat tankers around, fewer still with original, matching numbers. This Model 9 has the added benefit of being documented in the reference publication on Sunbeams.
