1956 AJS 7R Boy Racer

For sale is the iconic AJS 7R Boy Racer in good condition with beautiful patina.

Correct specification for 1956: Narrow full-loop frame (all pre 1958 frames were narrower), Burman close ratio gearbox in magnesium (Stamped 7R J 56 in accordance with the dating of the bike), Front and rear wheel hubs in magnesium, original 19 inch Dunlop WM1 and WM2 alloy rims, Amal GP carburettor with remote float chamber, adjustable foot rests, rubber mounted Smiths rev counter, Original Doherty throttle. A later Lucas 2MTT competition magneto is fitted.

The engine has never been stamped with a number, so it is likely a replacement engine fitted in period as a result of eager racing. The engine is reputedly fitted with a works type camshaft.

The condition of the bike is good. It has been used on the track in the past and as such is not in mint condition. It is however a very well maintained 7R, and I believe much of the paint is original. Most nuts and bolts are the original items, the spokes are cadmium plated, the original seat cover with zipped pocket at the back is still intact. All of which are pointers towards a well kept racing machine.

The AJS 7R comes with lots of documentation: Dyno test from 2017, Dating certificate from VMCC, invoice for work carried out in 2017 to recommission the 7R, copies of the original instruction sheets and maintenance and instruction manuals, various notes and a copy of the AJS 7R book by Mick Walker. A paddock stand is also included.

The AJS 7R was previously sold through Bonhams in 2017 and was registered for the road in the UK in 2018. It comes with modern UK V5 registration documents. Import to the EU happened before Brexit, so there is no tax to be paid if registered in the EU.

The AJS 7R runs on Castrol R and is ready to be raced on or off the track; you will not find many 7Rs that are registered for the road.
